Act 4 Human Rights is a campaign urging the NSW Labor Government to hold a public inquiry into the Human RIghts Bill 2025 that was introduced by NSW Greens Human Rights spokesperson and Member for Newtown Jenny Leong MP last year.

That Bill was drafted with the support and advice of the Human Rights Act for NSW Alliance, which has over 100 members across community, legal and human rights sectors including Amnesty International, the NSW Council for Civil LIberties, and the Human Rights Law Centre.

We’re calling on the NSW Labor Government to keep their election promise to consult on better laws to protect human rights in NSW by holding an inquiry into the Bill in 2026 so we can make it as strong as possible and get it passed.

I’m writing as a constituent to urge you to support a Human Rights Act for NSW. The current patchwork of legislation is not fit for purpose - we deserve dedicated human rights protections just like our neighbours in Victoria, Queensland, and the ACT.

Everyday, those working in our public service - whether it’s our hospitals, schools, emergency services, or transport systems - are making administrative decisions that have direct and lasting impacts on all of our lives.

And yet, there is absolutely no requirement for anybody making those decisions to even consider the impact their actions will have on the rights of people in our State. A Human Rights Act could change this.

There’s never been a better time to enshrine human rights protections into NSW law - we can take learnings from similar Acts in other Australian jurisdictions which have been protecting people for over 20 years in some cases, and apply them here.

I am asking you to pledge your support for an Act that will ensure my rights are protected and provide pathways to justice if they are breached.

We know the Human Rights Bill 2025 has been sent to an inquiry, and urge you to do all you can to support progressing this Bill to move us one step closer to a Human Rights Act for NSW.

Please, act for the people of NSW - act for Human Rights.
